New structure for FRU

The main purpose of the FRU Special General Meeting, according to interim chair Peter Mazey, was to discuss the new organizational structure. According to Mazey, the FRU will become a commercial organization because he thinks this is the best course of action for the next twenty to thirty years. He points out that the Unions only really voiced concerns regarding their High-Performance Units and future orientation. Although it has taken a while, rugby finally has a structure, we will be registering, and everything will be back in order. We present it to World Rugby for re-admission to the World Rugby Council the following week.

He continues by saying that during the meeting, specific documents that were discussed with the Unions were the subject of several inquiries. The Chief Executive Officer will oversee the FRU’s operations under the new arrangement. According to Mazey, their current charity will monitor activities as a regulatory body, while the new corporation, Fiji Rugby Union Limited, would serve as the management body.

He also mentioned that over the past two months, they have been consulting with every union in the country.

The charity was established earlier, with trustees appointed in August of last year.
