There is good news for some reps as the Fijian football team prepares for their matchup against Vanuatu in the OFC Men’s Nations Cup semi-final this afternoon. When Nabil Begg returns to Auckland City, he will likely sign a first team deal and see more action at Kiwitea Street. Begg is a sensation in the midfield. Begg is considered the best alternative to Liam Gillion, who is leaving City to join Auckland FC, a new A League team. Setareki Hughes of Rewa is another player whom the team is keeping an eye on and will soon extend an invitation for a trial.
According to insiders at Auckland City FC, Hughes has shown promise and could be considered for a contract if he continues to demonstrate his abilities. A team in New Zealand’s premier division is also interested in defender Sterling Vasconcellos, and Thomas Dunn is probably going to get a trial offer there or in Australia. In the meantime, the OFC Men’s Nations Cup semi-finals feature New Zealand playing Tahiti at 12pm, followed by Fiji playing Vanuatu at 4pm.
